Emmy 2008 Fashions - My favs - Part 1

So this year I watched the Emmys not just the before & after shows...lol But I gotta admit my favorite part is still the before Red Carpet arrival of the stars on E! TV. Anyone else with me on that?

Well in case you didn't get a chance to watch the Before Emmy show or the Actual Emmys show here is my review of my favorite part of the show ;)

TREND RECAP
I have to say that last year there was a bit more diversity in dreses. This year there was alot of BEADING and neutrals. By neutrals I mean black, white, white with black and beige. I disliked all the ruffles on gowns this year. I saw them on the Fall 08 runway as well but I like how they were executed on the Runway better. They were less frilly and girly and more structured and fresh looking.

The variety this year came in more women than usual wearing lengths other than LONG. And the Men got into variety this year too. More Men than usual wore colored ties and non-black jackets. Guess the men have overcome their color blindness ;)

My Favorite Dresses on the Ladies for the Emmys 2008:

The Dresses were so fabulous this year that I can't pick just one favorite :/ I know that is a cop out but it is true. I loved loved these dresses:

1) Nicollette Sheridan's sleek strapless gown by Angel Sanchez in purple. I LOVED the folds and pleats in the dark purple fabric. She was like a bright explination point at the end of the E! TV show saying to the stars this is how you do color bitches...lol

2) Olivia Wilde's beige satin and chiffon Reem Acra gown with sleeves made of several rows of beads. It was flowy and romantic. She really was a shimmering vision.

3) Christina Applegate's light blue one shouldered gold jacquard Reem Acra gown. Her dress reminded me of an Indian sari in the materials and the silhouette. I loved her hair and her jewelry as well. Her Earrings were divine. Her whole look was divine and not just for a woman recovering from breast cancer. Some Good Morning America equated her look at the Emmys with Grace Kelly and I have to agree with them.

4) My last favorite gown is one that was not discussed much in anyone's favorite dress selection in the fashion reviews today. It is Kate Walsh's black tiered beaded gown by Zuhair Murad. She looked like a tall elegant Art Deco statue that was ccompleted by her deco accessories.

Each of these gown were ALL in a tie for my affections. If I could have ANY of these dresses, I would be in heaven.

Coming in SECOND place was:

Sandra Oh's intricate black lace Oscar de la Renta dress. I have always liked her choices. She has a unique style that she always brings to the Red Carpet. I adored the slightly messy upswept hair, simple jewlery & makeup that she chose to supplement this dress.

Thirdly I liked Vanessa Williams' black and white floral Kevan Hall gown with subtle ruching and jeweled asymmetrical strap. This strap and the subtle pink color that occurred on this dress, just below the knee to the hem of the dress, both added interest to the dress and made it unique in it's use of embellishment, pattern and color. Her simple hair, jewelry and makeup were a frame that enhance the artwork of her dress.

My Favorite Non-Long Dresses on the Ladies for the Emmys 2008:

My favorite in this category was America Ferrera's vintage strapless ruched bubbled mid-calf hem dress (That was a mouthful. Say that five times fast). It was just FABULOUS!! The dress was enhanced by her Veronica Lake wavy hair, Black Lace pumps and Fred Leighton Jewelry. There was NOTHING about this look I didn't like.

Secondly I liked Lisa Edelstein's white strapless dress with black embroidery on the skirt and black lace underskirt. I was classic and crisp. It looked like something Lucille Ball would have worn out with Ricky...lol But she kept it in the 21st century with new bobbed haircut and black platform pumps.

SPECIAL MENTION

Special mention should be given to Brooke Shields' fuchsia strapless beaded bodice gown with long ruffle train, Tina Fey eggplant David Miester mermaid dress that looked like she couldn't breath but what is a little air when you can look that beautiful ;) and Christina Hendricks' dark green grecian gown with hair and shoes to match (which I feel got little notice by fashion reviewers).

Yikes that was a lot....but I'll be back with My favorite Men and my not so favorite looks.

Using Clothing and Accessories as a canvas brings Fashion to the next level

I loved the Dolce & Gabbana painted organza gown Rose McGowan wore at the amFar event the other night.

I love the Clothing and Accessories as a canvas. I've always thought of Clothing as Art but this is taking it to a new level by mixing what people consider "real" art with Fashion to create Fashion2. It reminded me of the Prada line for Spring/Summer 2008 that mixed Art with Prada's usual beautiful clothes. Below are some of my favorite items from that line.

India Fashion Week Highlights - March 2008 - Part 3

ROHIT BAL - Fashion Week Photos | Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2008 - Yahoo! India
ROHIT BAL Rohit Bal's latest collection has been inspired by the tradition of wearing the eight metals together. 'Ashta Dhatu' as it's rightly is complete with metallic hues like Gold, Metallic copper, Silver, Iron and lead. The silhouettes were kept very contemporary and international. The look of the collection is very dramatic and is very wearable. Bal created quite a stir in the last Fashion week with his collection 'Siyahi' and of course bringing the designers on the ramp. Some elements from the previous collections have also been incorporated to show a unique fusion.
I thought Rohit Bal designs were the most Theatrical. It seemed he was more into the Show. The Drama.

He showed some hoop skirt that were done in a totally different way. They sure weren't wearing it this way in the 19th century...LOL

The skirt below looks like it is made out of gum wrappers. You know how we use to make bracelets out of gum wrappers at camp. Am I the only one who did that? I really like the look of it. The texture it gives it.

I like this jacket although I wish there was a closer look at it. I think the jacket and the skirt, although very different, seem to work juxtaposed next to one another. And as I said in an earlier blog about India Fashion week, the mutli layers, in this instance in the skirt, remind me of
layers and layers of colored tissue paper that were cut to make
decorations, like a flower.

Reminds me of the dress Christian created on Project Runway for the Hersey challange. Don't you think so?

Another dress that reminds me of Christian. This one reminds me slightly of the Dress Christian made for that HIgh School girl in the Prom Dress challange except I like this dress more.

I love the skirt part of this dress. The copper swirls are just fabulous.

I like the sari part of the dress but not the shirt that goes with it. I would have preferred a light shimmering rose shirt, the color of the roses on the sari, to go with it.

VIKRAM PHADNIS - Fashion Week Photos | Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2008 - Yahoo! India
VIKRAM PHADNIS The first day first show of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion week saw designs from Vikram Phadnis. The designs were very contemporary graced with a mix of vibrant blues browns. Dull orange and pastel green were also a fresh change. Phadnis is a popular bollywood designer and is has adorned many big names of the glamour industry.

It seems Vikram Phadnis was the theatrical headdress designer of India Fashion Week. The headress that he seemed to use throughout the show reminded me of a black metal version of Betty Rubble's hairdo from The Flintstones.....Anyone else agree with me? Or do you have a better description?

I love this shirt/jacket. The pleating. The cinched in waist. I also like the skirt but not as much as the jacket.

I like this dress. But I especially love the inverted pleats and the bold color that peeks out from them.

GAURI & NAINIKA - Fashion Week Photos | Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2008 - Yahoo! India
GAURI & NAINIKA Gauri & Nainika offered us a look inspired by the chic that could be found in Paris after the WWII when the Grand Couturiers made women's dreams come true again. The collection comprised essentially feminine dresses in body curve enhancing dramatic silhouettes. The designers showed slim-fitted pencil cocktail dresses and flowing evening gowns with eclectic folds, subtle drapes and sensual layering of fabrics. The waist was generally narrow and contrasted charmingly with the wide flowing, sometimes even trailing-behind skirts. A colour palette which would have been loved by Grace Kelly contained blushed pinks, acid greens, blood reds and classic blacks.
Dresses seem to be GAURI & NAINIKA's specialty for this show.

Modern 21st century dress

The two dresses below are interpretations of a dress I could see Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly wearing were they alive in the 21st century.

The three dresses below all use the similar pattern and sheer netting material to give us versions of party dresses. Two cocktail dresses and one evening gown.

Emmy 2007 Fashions - My favs and my not so favs

Ok so I'll admit it, I didn't watch the Emmys. I watched the before and after shows on E! TV to see who wore what and who won. I know not good but I was busy watching The 4400 & the Dead Zone on the USA Network.

In any case here is my review of my favorite part of the show ;)

My Favorite Dresses on the Ladies for the Emmys 2007:

Heidi Klum in Dior
I love the color and her hair and the jewlery and the slit in the dress. It all works for me.

Marcia Cross in Georges Chakra
Marcia is one of the rare people with this coloring that can get away with a dress of this color. I think it is the striking balance of her pale skin and red hair that does it for me. I like the neckline if the dress as well with the deep V and sheerness. I LOVe the chance she took with the turquoise earrings. It worked for me.

Rebecca Gayheart in Carlos Miele
I like the unusualness of the dress, the neckline especially. The color was very nice on her as well. And usually I don't like matching accessories but the matching clutch bag works for me.

Teri Hatcher in Badgley Mischka
What more can I say? I LOVE Badgley Mischka and I LOVE Pink. She looked stunnning in this dress.

Katherine Heigl in Zac Posen
Again another what can I say? This dress is classic and beautiful. Zac Posen is one of those newish designers who just knows how to dress a woman.

Sarah Chalke in Monique Lhuillier
I LOVE Monique Lhuillier!. My favorite part of this dress is the back. The whole dress is unusual with the ruffles down the front but then she turns around and you see the back and it is like wowza! Sexy without being overtly so.

The Gentelman's Outfits that I liked:

Denis Leary
I really like the silver tie with the single breasted black tux.

Neil Patrick Harris (with partner David Burtka) in a Prada suit
I know many do not like black on black but I like this look on Neil. It maybe the bit of shine on the collar of the jacket and the waistband of the pants. Of course having a cute BF next to him doesn't hurt ;)

Eric Dane (with his Wife Rebecca Gayheart )
Eric just looks classic. James Bond like. The small bowtie and the slight salt and pepper hair all work for me. Again having a beautiful partner next to him doesn't hurt.

Who together make one of my favorite couple of the nite. My other Favorite couple:

Ellen DeGeneres in a Gucci suit & Portia de Rossi in a Azzaro gown
I love both of their outfits. Many didn't like Ellen's necklace but it doesn't bother me. I adored Portia's dress and the necklace embellishment on it. I love the fact that her and Portia wore matching colors. Since both of those colors were dark navy, which was unusual and sophisticated, it worked for me.

The Women's outfits I didn't like:

Becki Newton J. Mendel strapless tulle mermaid gown
The color doesn't work for me. Nor does the material and fluffy tiers. It is just all wrong to me. Maybe in a different color and without the waist peplum I might have liked it better but that is a big IF.

Hayden Panettiere in Marc Bouwer gown
Do I really have to say anything about why I don't like this? OK if I must. The color is not good for her but the part I really don't like is it is too big for her. Too much volume in the skirt. It swallows her up and makes her look pregnant. Did they need to save the cheerleader for another reason other than the world?;)...

Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Narciso Rodriguez gown
I like Narciso Rodriguez usually but I just don't love this color. It just doesn't work for me. I like the cut of the dress so maybe if it were in a different color.

Jenna Fischer in Zuhair Murad dress
OK the excuse for this dress was that she hurt her back and needed to be comfortable. I hurt my back and I understand having to be comfortable but I wouldn't have worn this dress. The bow is awful as is the tan color with abstract splashes of gold. It doesn't work for me.

Patricia Heaton
I don't like the color or the cut of the dress. And I don't like her dark nail polish with it. The only thing I kind of like are her earrings. I would have kept those and started the outfit from scratch.

Aida Turturro
This just looks like a bad prom or going to a wedding dress. It just doesn't work for me at ALL. And don't get me started on her hair....Ughhhhh

Gentleman's outfits I didn't like:

I have to admit this is probably no suprise and not original. I think we all agreed on this:

Terry O'Quinn
Hot Pink and a glittery tie.....Just WRONG!! Don't these people have stylists they pay too much money to?
